From Vows to Baby: Our Story of Love, Patience, and Parenthood

Finally, I’ve stepped into the magical world of motherhood! It’s been a journey of nearly three years, filled with ups and downs. Yet, every moment was worth it. As I reflect, I realize the road to this joyous occasion was paved with challenges, both before, during, and after pregnancy.

Let’s rewind to where it all began. My beloved husband and I exchanged vows in the crisp air of late fall in 2018. Initially, we decided to savor the bliss of marriage before diving into parenthood. I cherished those early days, exploring the depths of our love and companionship.

Before marriage, I never paid much heed to my irregular cycle. It was all part of life’s unpredictable rhythm. However, upon tying the knot, subtle concerns began to surface. Despite our earnest efforts, the first year passed without any news. Worries crept in as I noticed irregularities in my menstrual cycle and other bodily changes.

But amid the uncertainties, there was always hope. Each missed period was a gentle reminder of the miracle awaiting us. And now, as I hold my precious bundle of joy, every trial and tribulation feels like a distant memory. This journey has taught me resilience, patience, and the profound meaning of unconditional love.

PCOS: Embracing Challenges, Discovering Miracles

Before the joy of discovering my pregnancy, my journey to motherhood began with a startling diagnosis: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). This revelation brought a wave of uncertainty and challenges, as I grappled with the reality of fertility struggles. Each step forward felt like an uphill battle, filled with moments of frustration, tears, and unanswered questions. Yet, amidst the uncertainty, I found strength in perseverance and resilience.

Navigating the complexities of PCOS, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. I made conscious choices to prioritize my health and well-being, embracing lifestyle changes and seeking support from loved ones and healthcare professionals. Despite setbacks and moments of doubt, I remained steadfast in my determination to overcome obstacles and pursue my dream of motherhood.

Little did I know, amidst the trials and tribulations, a miracle was waiting to unfold. The unexpected news of my pregnancy brought overwhelming joy and gratitude, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the beauty of life’s unpredictable journey. From the initial diagnosis of PCOS to the miraculous gift of pregnancy, my story is a testament to the power of hope, perseverance, and unwavering faith in the face of adversity.

My PCOS Diagnosis

So, my friend suggested Women’s Health Associates of Southern Nevada, and I thought, “Why not?” My first meeting was with a nurse practitioner who sat down and listened to me. It was a pleasant surprise because usually, appointments feel rushed, and everyone’s standing, making things awkward.

Then came the male practitioners and doctors. Let’s just say, it got a bit uncomfortable. They seemed hesitant to sit down and chat. Anyway, after I spilled about my symptoms, the nurse practitioner suggested we test for PCOS.

Oh, and about that weird pain in my elbow? Turns out, it’s just from lugging around those heavy boxes at work. No need to worry, she said. Quite a relief, considering I was starting to freak out a bit about it!

Finding My Own Path: Navigating Health Challenges with Faith and Determination

The Lord works in mysterious ways, indeed. The next time I visited, she dropped a bombshell: PCOS and the beginning stages of type 2 diabetes. Funny thing is, I wouldn’t have gone for a check-up if it weren’t for the pain and infertility.

After the pandemic hit and I got furloughed, I ballooned to my heaviest. My job used to keep me active, so the weight never stuck. Plus, eating out wasn’t an option anymore. People are gross these days, not washing their hands and all.

So, it was homemade meals for me, twice a day at work. Now they’re talking about putting me on metformin, a diabetic med that can help with infertility. But me, I’m not rushing to pop pills when I know there’s a natural cure.

They offer meds when they think you won’t change your lifestyle. Well, no way! I ate myself into this mess; I’ll eat myself out. And you know what? I did just that. Shed 40 lbs switching between low carb and Keto. It took time, but I found my groove, and it worked.

Healthy Habits: Embracing Lifestyle Changes for Well-being

I began by committing to daily walks and an immediate diet overhaul after receiving the news. It was tough, like the hardest thing ever, as I battled constant hunger pangs and felt like I was depriving myself.

Turning to Keto was a game-changer. I could indulge in protein, albeit in moderation, which helped curb my cravings. Intermittent fasting joined the mix, accelerating my weight loss journey.

Soon enough, exercising became a routine, like my morning coffee, five days a week, for 30 minutes. At my next appointment with the same NP (Nurse Practitioner), she proposed a trial of injections to aid ovulation, potentially resulting in multiple pregnancies.

Knowing my limits, I opted to persist with natural methods for a while longer. She then suggested using an at-home ovulation kit, guiding me on when to try for pregnancy.

With my little girlfriend back on track, I almost forgot about it until one day at work when I realized I was three days late. Could this be it? The moment I’d been longing for?

Surprise!

Moving into our new two-bedroom apartment marked the beginning of a new chapter. Little did I know, that a conversation with a close friend from church would provide unexpected wisdom: “Trust in God’s plan, no matter what.”

When the pregnancy test turned up negative, a whirlwind of emotions engulfed me—sadness, frustration, and confusion. “That’s it,” I resolved. “No more pregnancy tests. I’m done with the rollercoaster.”

Settling into my role at R&S Body Slimming, I couldn’t ignore the overwhelming scent of the essential oils they used. Each whiff left me feeling queasy and uncomfortable. When Susie, one of the owners, noticed my reaction, I couldn’t help but explain how the aroma made me feel nauseous.

Surprising Signs

She mentioned that she thinks I might be pregnant. It’s been nearly two months, and that idea never even crossed my mind. Not only did that smell make me nauseous, but I would sit there all day and just feel sick, to the point that I thought I had contracted COVID-19. When I got home, I thought about taking the pregnancy test, but I was so tired I forgot after waking up from a nap.

A few days later, while I was out with my husband for his fertility test, the idea of taking a pregnancy test slipped my mind. When we got home, I ended up sharing everything with someone I’m close to. They gently asked why I hadn’t taken a test earlier, and I admitted I simply forgot. After our conversation, I felt compelled to take the test myself.

I hung up the phone and took the test… Pregnant! That’s what it said; I never presumed it would have said that. There were a lot of emotions at that moment. I was so dumbfounded that I took two more tests, and they all returned the same… Pregnant! Almost three long years of crying, praying, working out, and switching my lifestyle put me here.

Life’s journey to parenthood is often filled with unexpected twists and turns. It’s a testament to resilience and faith to trust in the process, even when faced with uncertainty. Through moments of doubt and unforeseen challenges, remember that every setback is an opportunity for growth. Embrace the unexpected, cherish the journey, and hold onto hope, for in the end, the most beautiful blessings often come when we least expect them.
